“Kick the Habit : Breaking Free from Nicotine”

May 31st marks World No Tobacco Day, a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and advocating for policies to reduce its consumption. Established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987, this annual event serves as a reminder of the health risks associated with tobacco use and the importance of tobacco control measures. The theme for World No Tobacco Day 2024 is “Protecting children from tobacco industry interference.”

World No Tobacco Day encourages individuals and communities worldwide to take action against tobacco by promoting cessation efforts, advocating for tobacco-free environments, and supporting policies that curb tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship. The day also highlights the significant burden that tobacco use places on public health, economies, and societies, including the staggering number of preventable deaths attributed to tobacco-related diseases each year.
